"It's a song about ugly feelings," admits Miranda, who was signed to Bu Vision/Def Jam by Akon's brother and Def Jam A&R Bu Thiam. "It's about jealousy, insecurity, and weakness, but it's honest."
On the mid-tempo, Sham-produced groove, Miranda waxes poetic about feeling ill will towards the new girl that has the man she once gave her heart to. "Now she gets the best of you, while the rest of you is left back with me/ She don't have a clue just what to do with you/ I don't like her, I'm a hater/ You're in love, I'm alone, it's not fair/ She gets the good guy, I got the player," she croons.
The performer, who grew up belting out melodies in church, calls on artists like Aaliyah and Xscape as musical influences. She even takes a page from the rhyming handbook of TLC and Missy Elliott. "Calling myself a singer limits me," she says. "I'm a performer. I can sing, I can dance, and I can rap."
Miranda Brooke is currently crafting her debut album with producers and songwriters Jermaine Dupri, Sean Garrett and Bryan-Michael Cox.
