Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige is bringing back an old friend on her next album. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul’s rap alter ego Brook Lynn is set to make an appearance.

According to Rolling Stone, Brook Lynn spits a verse on the Rico Love-produced and penned “Midnight Drive,” one of the cuts off MJB’s upcoming album My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act I), scheduled for release on November 21.

Fans may be familiar with Brook Lynn from her cameos on “Enough Cryin’” off The Breakthrough and the remix to Busta Rhymes’ “Touch It.”

The 40-year-old R&B vet continues to grow through adversity on the sequel to her 1994 breakthrough. “The first My Life, I didn’t understand why I was in so much pain,” she tells the magazine. “This one adds another level of understanding.”

She spreads her love on the Eric Hudson-produced lead single “25/8” and finds strength on the self-empowering “Masterpiece.” Danja, Jerry Wonda, Swizz Beatz, Jim Jonsin, The Underdogs, and Jermaine Dupri have all made contributions.

Mary is already plotting a sequel to her sequel. “We’re going to do Act II, because it’s just too much good music,” she reveals.
