The first of Drizzy's new tracks, 'Club Paradise,' dropped Saturday (Sept. 10) via the Canadian rapper's October's Very Own blog. The next day, he posted two more cuts: 'Free Spirit,' which he introduced with a quote from Lady Di -- "I like to be a free spirit. Some don't like that, but that's the way I am." -- and a remix of Waka's 'Round of Applause.'
While Drake neglected to say whether his two new originals will make the final 'Take Care' album, which is due out Oct. 24, the songs have a similar mood. On 'Club Paradise,' the former 'Degrassi: The Next Generation' actor takes stock of his success, revealing that he hasn't forgotten about ladies he knew before he was famous.
"Tell me who did I leave behind?" Drake raps. "You think I'm so caught up in where I am right now/ But believe I remember it all."
'Club Paradise' ends with a snippet of a 1979 Bob Marley interview, in which the reggae great explains how some people are "still searching for that truth."
On 'Free Spirit,' featuring Rick Ross, Drake is characteristically honest and unguarded. "Rap is stress, but it pays well," he says. When the hook comes around, he urges his girl to "tat my name on you so I know it's real."
'Round of Applause,' meanwhile, is notable for being Drake's first time rapping over a Lex Luger beat.
"[I] feel like I got seat B60 on Southwest ... everybody has gone in before me ... but we made it happen!" Drake wrote on his blog.
