Houston Declares August 30 Official 'Bun B Day'

After years of being overlooked as an MC, Houston rap legend Bun B is finally receiving the recognition he deserves.

Houston's mayor, Annise Parker has officially dubbed August 30 "Bernard 'Bun B' Freeman Day' in honor of the widely respected UGK rapper. On Tuesday (Aug. 30), Bun B, who taught a course on Religion at Rice University earlier this year, was presented with the honor at Houston's City Hall, in front of a standing-room-only audience.

Bun thanked Mayor Parker for recognizing his attempts to support his city, and said that he will be available to the city council, whenever the need should arise, asking only that people remain accountable to the city's children, as well.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the City Council that I am available 24-7/365 when it comes to the children of Houston as well as the surrounding cities and communities. Whenever the city needs me, I am more than willing and able to answer the call," Bun said, according to the Houston Press.

"I ask everyone who is here present today, as well as those who may see this on TV or the internet later, to do their part as well," the rapper stated. "Let's not forget the children of Houston. Let's make sure that they are accounted for, that they are looked after, and that they are loved and cared about."

Incidentally, "Bernard 'Bun B' Freeman Day" falls on Houston's 175th birthday. So trill
