In light of the positive response to 'WTT,' which debuted atop the Billboard charts in mid-August, hip-hop heavyweights Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Drake may be looking to follow suit.
According to DJ Khaled, the end result of the trio joining forces for an album would be epic. "I would love to see a Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Drake album," Khaled tells The BoomBox. "I would love to be a part of that. Maybe that'll happen one day."
Likening himself to the hip-hop version of Berry Gordy and famed producer Quincy Jones, Khaled has turned his self-assured mantra -- "we the best!" -- into multi-million dollar success, working with the likes of Usher, T.I., T-Pain and Diddy, just to name a few. Yet, it's his relationship with Wayne that stands out as one of his closest friendships. "He's an amazing friend, great person and is always supporting his friends," Khaled shares. "There's no way to explain how his friendship is; it's so real."
Since Drake, Wayne and Ross are all busy working on their solo projects, no official plans for a collaborative album have been made just yet, but it's not totally out of the question. "It's a possibility," Ross added. "You know those are my brothers. We were in the studio with Drizzy [the other] night 'til six, seven in the morning, you know what I'm saying? Of course Lil Wayne, that's the family. I think the moves being made in music right now is good for music, and it's good to see black executives making those power moves, such as 'Watch the Throne' and the pop-up stores and the [MTV] VMAs. [We're] just celebrating the way they're being strategic."
In the meantime, Ross is focusing on his forthcoming solo release, 'God Forgives, I Don't,' as well as running his Maybach Music Group record label, home to D.C. rapper Wale and newcomer Meek Mill. "It's going to be the best variety of music I put together," Ross said of his fourth album. "That'll be coming soon as well as [new music] from Maybach Music. November 1, look for Wale's new album, 'Ambition.' That's phenomenal. That's something that I'm real excited about."
