The members of Odd Future are known for their hijinks and rambunctious ways so it comes as no surprise that a music industry veteran was put-off by their actions while sharing an airport shuttle with the rap team during a trip to Barcelona, Spain.
Steve Albini, a musician and producer for such acts as Nirvana, PJ Harvey and the Pixies, among others, was recently traveling to the European city with his band Shellac. After coming in closer contact than he would have liked, he shared his experience with the California-based rappers on a message board for Electrical Audio, the Chicago recording studio Albini owns.
From his account, the OFWGKTA members were just how they seem on their social networking accounts, loud and abrasive. Though Albini didn't mention individual names like Odd Future frontman Tyler, the Creator, he did detail how he "wanted to strangle" the "little pricks."
According to the Shellac member, besides smoking marijuana on the shuttle and flipping the middle finger at passengers, Odd Future "piled onto the shuttle late, after finally getting corralled by their minder, who was nursing a head wound with an ice bag wrapped in a towel. They piled in, n-----ing everything in sight, motherf---ing the driver, boasting into the air unbidden about getting their d---s sucked and calling everyone in the area a f----."
The hip-hop newcomers' actions did little to gain a new fan out of Albini, who isn't a "part of the hip-hop audience" anyway. However, rap fan or not, Albini did walk away from the Odd Future encounter with an impression that doesn't seem too far-fetched, based off Tyler's own lyrics and Twitter posts. "...They go out of their way to make it clear that this is not a case of regular people making music about a------s, but a------s making music about being a------s," Albini stated.
