The Roc boys are joining forces with the Billionaire Boys. Jay-Z’s Rocawear has scooped up Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club clothing line.
According to GQ, Jay-Z’s fashion label Rocawear has purchased the licensing to manufacture and distribute Billionaire Boys Club. Jay will reportedly work in tandem with Pharrell on future endeavors.
The pricey Billionaire Boys Club line currently sells at high-end retailers, while the less expensive Rocawear is available at department stores such as Macy’s. But don’t necessarily expect BBC to be marketed to the masses because of the ownership change.
In 2007, Jay-Z sold the rights to Rocawear for $204 million in cash to the Iconix Brand Group, but retained his stake in the urban apparel brand. He remains in charge of product development, marketing, and licensing.
UPDATE: Jay-Z has clarified that Rocawear did not purchase BBC. Instead, the deal is a partnership. “‘Partnering with @4real4rell on BBC’ follow him.. (Not ‘buying’ as GQ erroneously reported.),” wrote the music mogul.
