While news broke that Ms. Keys would add show producer to her impressive resume over the summer, it was just announced (Oct. 4) that Alicia is also set to score the Lydia R. Diamond's drama.
The play, about a well-to-do black family on Martha's Vineyard, will begin rehearsals later this month and a representative for the production commented that "exact placement of the music within the production is still being worked on," but that audiences "should expect original music in the style of Alicia Keys that is used to help propel Lydia's story along."
The New York-born singer-songwriter was overjoyed about the project admitting, "As someone who walked up and down this boulevard [Broadway] as a young girl, I cannot describe the thrill of having the opportunity of composing songs for a Broadway show." Talk about an 'Empire State of Mind'!
"I love the humor and humanity of 'Stick Fly,' and I'm so excited to be a part of the emotional journey this show will take audiences on," Alicia added.
'Stick Fly,' is scheduled to begin previews at the Cort Theater on Nov. 18 and open on Dec. 8.
