With his sophomore album, 'Take Care,' dropping next month, Drake follows up his current single, 'Headlines,' with a new record, which he debuted last night (Oct. 13) on Funkmaster Flex's Hot 97 radio show.
"I just want to say this is an important moment for me because I got a lot of records out right now that are anthem, club, party environment," the Young Money MC explained. "A girl actually, a girl whose opinion I respect greatly, hit me and she was like, 'There's nothing... on the radio for us right now. There's nothing to make women feel good like they did when we had 'Best I Ever Had,' which was the reference that she made. The song's called 'Make Me Proud.' So it's a moment, go out and make me proud, baby."
On the T-Minus produced track, which is full of bass and sounds like what a warped aerial space ride might be, Drake spits of a lady who makes him proud, in more ways than one. "I like a woman with a future and a past/ A little attitude problem, all good, it'll make the s--- last/ Don't make it too easy, girl, don't take it too fast/ Yeah, that's it right there, that's it, do it just like that/ Only you could do it just like that," he rhymes.
The surprise on the record is Nicki Minaj, who both croons and raps in one of her many voices. "The best legal teams so the deals is ill/ It's MAC, OPI and the fragrance too/ Apparel and dominating every avenue/ Cobblestone good view, lil gravel too/ Gotta pay for the entourage travel too/ 'Cause I'm fl-fl-flying high/ Ain't got time to talk just hi and bye."
'Make Me Proud' appears on the Toronto native's LP, 'Take Care,' set for a Nov. 15 release.
