Monica Sets Delivery Date for ‘New Life’

Monica

Monica has finalized a delivery date for next project. The singer will give birth to her seventh album this November.

The follow-up to 2010’s Grammy-nominated Still Standing is due November 8, Monica announced via Twitter. It will include production from Missy Elliott and Polow Da Don, among others.

“I talk about a lot of different subjects, whether it’s love, heartache, happiness, family,” said the R&B veteran, who recently wed L.A. Laker Shannon Brown. “The music will be a lot like Still Standing in the sense that it’s real and really about things that I’ve experienced, but it’s also from a very mature place.”

The lead single “Anything (To Find You)” sparked controversy after Lil’ Kim was suddenly removed by the Notorious B.I.G.’s mother Voletta Wallace on behalf of her son’s estate. Rick Ross can be heard on the radio version.

T.I. to Document Return in New VH1 Series

T.I.

T.I. is wasting no time returning to work. Hours after being released from prison, VH1 has announced plans for a new show following the platinum rapper as he re-adjusts to life as a free man after his 10-month incarceration.

The half-hour, 10-episode series premieres December 5 at 10 p.m. Viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the King of the South’s most private and personal moments as he is reunited with his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle and kids.

In addition to his career as a rapper, actor, and businessman, there will be candid moments of him as a father, husband, son, and friend. Cameras will follow Tip as he returns to the studio to record his next album, while abiding by a new set of restrictions stemming from his probation. Will the King be able to maintain his kingdom under a new set of laws?

“Viewers have always connected with T.I. and we are definitely thrilled to show the next chapter of this incredible artist’s riveting life with this new series,” said Jeff Olde, EVP, Original Programming and Production VH1. “T.I is such a multi-talented artist and actor, and though he has had some setbacks, there is no doubt he will use his considerable talents to get back on top of both the music and film business.”

T.I. was released to a halfway house on Wednesday (Aug. 31) after serving 10 months behind bars in an Arkansas federal prison.

Game Scores No. 1 Debut with ‘R.E.D. Album’

Game

Game is painting the charts R.E.D. The Compton rapper’s latest album debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week.

The R.E.D. Album sold 98,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It marks the third album from Game to enter at No. 1 following 2005’s The Documentary and 2006’s Doctor’s Advocate (2008’s LAX landed at No. 2 with 239,000).

Game dethrones Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne from the top spot. The joint album from the hip-hop duo has moved 707,000 units in the three weeks since its release.

Game took to Twitter to celebrate the good news. “Im so fuckin happy right now I dont know what the fuck 2 do ! Thank yall again from the bottom of MY HEART ! Lamborghinis 4 EVERYBODY lol,” he wrote. “4 #1 rap albums !!! Seems like just yesterday I wanted to be a rapper now 4 albums later…… We here. Damn, life krazy sometimes.”

But he better savor the moment while it lasts. His “Red Nation” collaborator Lil Wayne is set to blow away the competition when Tha Carter IV arrives on the charts next week. Sales are estimated in 850,000-900,000 range.

T.I. Released From Prison Today, One Month Early

T.I.

The King is back. T.I. has been released from a prison in Arkansas after serving 10 months behind bars.

Chris Burke, spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, tells TMZ that the rapper left Forrest City Correctional Facility at 7:29 a.m. local time on Wednesday (Aug. 31) and is “in transit” to serve the remainder of his time in a halfway facility.

“Feels great to be back where I belong…Back in the arms of those who need me the most,” tweeted Tip. “The storm is over & da sun back out. IT’S OUR TIME TO SHINE SHAWTY!!!!! Welcome to the beginning of our Happy Ending!!!!”

He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance in September 2010, which violated terms of his probation stemming from a federal gun conviction back in 2009. He checked into prison on November 1 and was originally scheduled to be released in late September.

His friends celebrated his homecoming on Twitter. “Welcome Home @tip sending u & my girl @TinyMajorMama my loveU both let your love 4 each other lead the way. Im so happy your together again,” wrote fellow ATLien Monica.

In a recent letter to his fans, he vowed to start anew upon his release. “When I touch down, I’m going all the way back to square one, like I’m fresh in the game and never sold a record. Back on some I’M SERIOUS, TRAP MUZIK shit,” he wrote

Lil Wayne May Sell More Than 700,000 Units of 'Tha Carter IV'

Lil Wayne

Following his energetic guitar-smashing VMA performance on Sunday night (Aug. 28), experts are predicting that Lil Wayne will likely land the second-highest selling album of the year with 'Tha Carter IV,' which was released at 12AM following the awards ceremony.

The highly anticipated follow-up to Wayne's infamous 'Tha Carter III,' which sold 1.01 million copies in its first week back in 2008, is projected to sell between 700,000 and 850,000 copies by week's end, almost doubling Jay-Z and Kanye West's 'Watch the Throne,' which sold 436,000 in its first week, and putting it at a close second only to Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way,' which sold 1.11 million.

'Tha Carter IV' will easily topple 'Watch the Throne' from it's No. 1 perch on Billboard's 200 next week as well, making it Weezy's third No. 1 album.

The Young Money leader's last two 2010 efforts performed much less successfully -- 'Rebirth' debuted at No. 2 with 176,000 copies sold in the first week back in February, and 'I Am Not a Human Being' hit No. 1, with 110,000 copies sold in September.

Lil Wayne's 9th album 'Tha Carter IV' is in stores now.

Drake Talks ‘Take Care,’ Joint Album with Rick Ross, & ‘Watch the Throne’

Drake

Now that Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV is finally in stores, Young Money is looking to continue its winning streak with Drake’s sophomore album Take Care, due October 24. The Canadian rapper-singer spoke at length with Entertainment Weekly about the follow-up to his debut Thank Me Later, a deluxe birthday edition of the album, working with the legendary Stevie Wonder, how Watch the Throne made him push harder, and a potential collaborative album with Rick Ross. Check out some highlights below.

On the deluxe edition of Take Care: “So what I’m doing is there will be a Take Care physical edition in stores that’ll hopefully have 15 to 17 songs on it. Then I know a lot of people do deluxe editions. But since October 24 [his birthday] is a special day for me, I got, like, a Take Care birthday edition that I’m going to put on iTunes that will have extra songs. I really want to encourage people to be excited about the album releasing.”
On why he’s taking his time with this album: “I remember when artists used to take, like, four years to make an album. Usher used to disappear for three years. It took Justin Timberlake a really long time to craft Justified. Even Beyoncé’s albums are spanned three years apart. You’ve got to live, man. And now we’ve sort of birthed and encouraged this generation of instant gratification.”
On how Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne inspired him: “With Jay and with Watch the Throne, I’m so glad that it came out. As artists, we all need extra motivation. And I feel like in these last 30 days, that album is going to make me go 10 times harder from just, you know, hearing all the bars and all the sounds.”
On a potential joint project with Rick Ross: “One of the people of the people I enjoy rapping with most in this business is Rozay [Rick Ross]. Me and him have talked about potentially doing something after our albums comes out. I just love making songs with him. Every time we make a song it just seems to be something I love listening to after the fact when I’m in my car.”
On his Stevie Wonder collaboration: “I had a song that’s very powerful, it’s called ‘Doing It Wrong,’ and Stevie boosted it to another level. 40 produced it, but Stevie has a solo on it that he plays. It’s a great piece of music.”
On why Take Care will have less features compared to his debut: “It was my first album. It was a bit rushed. And I think I found solitude in having features from people I love. It was a heavy feature album. And this album is the complete opposite.”
On which leaked tracks will make the final cut: “‘Headlines’ and ‘Marvin’s Room’ are on the album. But ‘Dreams Money Can Buy’ and ‘Trust Issues,’ those joints are on that birthday edition. That birthday edition might be a stupid amount of songs. I’m just forewarning everybody. [Laughs] I want to service people a lot of music to get you through fall, winter, spring, and into the next summer. I want this music to last.”

Elephant Man Headed to Trial for Energy Theft

Popular dancehall artist Elephant Man has been ordered to stand trial in November, after being charged with energy theft.

The 'Pon De River' singer, also known as the "Energy God," appeared in a Kingston, Jamaica court this morning, where his trial date was set for Nov. 30.

Elephant Man was arrested at his home in St. Andrew Parish back on Jun. 2, when police and a team from the Jamaica Public Service Company, the sole distributor of Jamaica's electricity, carried out an operation to inspect local light meters in his apartment complex, and found his meter to contain an illegal connection.

Upon closer inspection, police claim that they discovered several appliances in the reggae performer's apartment, which were connected to the illegal connection. Upon the findings, Elephant Man was arrested him. According to the Jamaica Observer, the singer has pleaded not guilty to the charge of "abstracting electricity."

Elephant Man began as a member of Scare Dem Crew, before launching a successful career as a solo artist. He signed with Bad Boy in 2007, and released an album, 'Let's Get Physical,' which featured Diddy, Busta Rhymes and Wyclef Jean.

The Outlawz Say They Smoked Tupac Shakur's Ashes

Tupac Shakur's rap group the Outlawz have confirmed the long-standing rumors that they smoked the late MC's ashes at a memorial service in Las Vegas in 1996. Young Noble and E.D.I. told Vlad TV, "We twisted some of that great granddaddy California kush and mixed the big homie with it" and smoked the ceremonial blunt.

"Yes, it's definitely true," Noble claims. "We ... had a little memorial for him with his mom and his family. We had hit the beach, threw [in] a lot of s--- he liked at the beach. Some weed, some chicken wings, he loved orange soda... Pac loved that kind of s---, so we were giving him our own farewell."

E.D.I. adds in that they were following 2Pac's last wish verbatim. "If you listen to Black Jesus, he said, 'Last wishes, n----s smoke my ashes.' That was a request that he had. Now, how serious he was about it? We took it serious."

2Pac formed the Outlawz, who were featured on his 'All Eyez on Me' album, shortly after his release from prison in 1995, the year before the legend was shot multiple times in Las Vegas and succumbed to the injuries days later. The crew's most recent revelation comes closely timed to the upcoming 15th anniversary of 2Pac's death. Even closer is the timing of the Outlawz' new album release date, which falls exactly on Sept. 13, the day of the West Coast rapper's passing.

Diddy Creates an Arty Photography Book of Butts

Looks like Diddy's adding an extra cred to his hyphenated career and it's a cheeky one. The rapper-producer-actor-designer is now a publisher too, with a new project dedicated to a very particular aspect of the feminine physique, NY Post reports. The music mogul teams up with Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine to create an entire photo book in honor of superb posteriors.

The coffee table book will feature snaps from noted fashion and celebrity photographer Raphael Mazzucco who, among many high level assignments, has created saucy spreads for Victoria's Secret. The book is dubbed simply 'Culo,' which means "buttocks" but sounds so much classier in Italian.

Backside aficionados get ready: the book drops in November.

Nicki Minaj, J. Cole Comment on Beyonce, Jay-Z Baby News

Now that Beyonce is going to be a mom, there's no doubt that her life is going to change but the singer can rest assured that she has lots of people in her corner.

The 29-year-old was the talk of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night (Aug. 28), where she happily displayed her baby bump both on the red carpet and during her performance. In light of her new journey into motherhood some of her musical associates couldn't hide their elation.

Young Money's leading lady is already calling first dibs on one of the coveted titles to receive after a child is born. "My baby Beyonce! I will be the godmother," Nicki Minaj cheerfully tells The BoomBox.

Rapper J. Cole, who is set to release his debut album, 'Cole World: Teh Sideline Story' on Sept. 27, via Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, was equally excited about the news. "[It's] incredible," Cole shares with The BoomBox. The North Carolina native also predicts that if the baby is a girl, she will be named Brooklyn Carter, which Jay rapped in the track, 'Hello Brooklyn' off his 'American Gangster' album.

"I feel like the whole world feels like we having a baby. How wild is that? You can't help but smile, it's incredible. It's crazy. The way they told the world was so gangsta and it's so not even their style, which made it even better. They're so not flashy with their news but I feel like it's cool that they shared that with the world. They knew that it was important news for the world, to us, the fans."

Beyonce and Jay tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2009. This will be the first child for both.

Kreayshawn Vents Frustrations: ‘This Game Is Fake as Hell!’

Kreayshawn

Kreayshawn is quickly learning how cruel the spotlight can be. Following the MTV Video Music Awards, the “Gucci Gucci” rapper’s Twitter account was hacked and underage nude photos of her were leaked online. It appears to be taking a tough toll on her, as she reveals to her fans via Tumblr.

“All I wanted to do is create and have a good time,” the Bay Area artist wrote in a blog entry entitled “I Am Mad.” “But, this is quickly forming into something I never would have signed up for from being accused of being racist to getting my pre-teen nudes leaked everywhere.”

Despite a lucrative deal with Columbia Records and nomination for Best New Artist at the VMAs, she still contemplates whether she is cut out for this industry. “I feel like this shit ain’t my cup of tea,” she vented. “Someone else want my job right about now? Im just gotta sip lean and disappear. THIS GAME IS FAKE AS ALL HELL!”

To add to her troubles, she was confronted by Rick Ross’ crew at Sunday’s awards after her controversial freestyle on Cosmic Kev’s “Come Up Show,” but she maintains that her lyrics (“You tryin’ to play me like a boss? You faker than Rick Ross”) were not a diss at the Teflon Don. “I’ve never, ever intentionally dissed anybody my whole career, and I don’t do that personally with friends either,” she told MTV News earlier

Kreayshawn, Rick Ross Clash at 2011 MTV VMAs -- Watch

Had cooler heads not prevailed, a backstage brawl involving two hip-hop entourages -- one belonging to Rick Ross, the other Kreayshawn -- might have been the big story at this year's VMAs, held Sunday (Aug. 28) in L.A. Instead, the two camps only exchanged words, stopping short of physical violence.

While Kreayshawn recently told MTV that she has no beef with Ross, the 'Gucci Gucci' rapper has dissed the Maybach Music Group founder at least twice, insinuating he's "fake" in a televised freestyle and insulting his weight in a video posted last week on Ustream.

"Oh my god -- VMA wildness," the female MC said during Sunday night's altercation, as Ross' posse appeared to be led away by security. "Nobody likes Kreayshawn, but it's OK. We all have fun. We all have fun out here. Things are getting a little too serious, though. We had some jokes."

Kreayshawn may find the whole thing funny, but in the video below, Ross doesn't appear to be laughing.

Beyoncé Sets Twitter Record With Pregnancy Announcement

Beyoncé

Everyone was atwitter over Beyoncé’s pregnancy reveal at the MTV Video Music Awards. The surprise announcement was a social media phenomenon and helped Twitter break a new record.

According to Twitter, the news of a little one for Mr. and Mrs. Carter set a new record on the microblogging service: 8,868 tweets per second. The previous record took place when the U.S. women’s soccer team took on Japan in July, registering 7,196 tweets per second.

Not only did B deliver a Twitter blockbuster, but her public reveal also helped MTV achieve ratings gold. The 28th annual show was the most watched VMAs in the network’s history, with a record 12.4 million total viewers and 8.5 million of those 12-to-34 years old, according to AdAge.

Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé

She has no doubts that the 29-year-old singer will make a great mother. “I think she’ll be an incredible mother, because she’s always been motherly. I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think it’s going to be so natural for her. It’s natural for her now!”

Accompanied by only a pianist, the British songstress excluded her chart-topping single “Rolling in the Deep” and gave a soulful rendition of “Someone Like You,” passionately delivery the tune over the sparse instrumentation.

Beyoncé Spreads ‘Love’ with VMA Performance [Video]

Beyoncé

Beyoncé showed off her baby bump during a rendition of “Love on Top,” a cut off her latest album 4. The mom-to-be flaunted her pregnant belly at the end of the performance, showing no signs of wear as she ripped through the ’80s throwback in a glittery purple jacket, white tuxedo shirt, and dress pants. After she climbed the octaves, B unbuttoned her shiny top and clutched her tummy while the camera cut to the proud father-in-waiting, who was cheered on by Kanye West and Lady Gaga. Chris Brown Performs at the VMAs [Video]

Chris Brown

Chris Brown pumped up the volume with this high-powered medley of his hits during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. With his brief retrospective of MTV hits, Breezy kicked off with his club smash “Yeah 3X,” cutting his performance with a dance breakdown to Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck.” After rocking out to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” the singer, clad in a white suit, took flight while he belted out “Beautiful People,” entertaining an ebullient Kanye West who applauded while standing next to Jay-Z.

Pitbull and Ne-Yo Perform at VMAs [Video]

Pitbull

Pitbull, Ne-Yo, and Afrojack turned the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards into a bumping club with their performance of “Give Me Everything” off Pit’s latest album Planet Pit. The team hit the stage with a gang of backup dancers, giving a tightly-stitched rendition of their hit as a web of green lasers shot out behind them. Pit, dressed in a white suit jacket and light red pants, joined a fedora-clad Ne-Yo to sing the tune, while Nayer added a female touch to the banger.

The hip-hop kings gave a high-energy performance of their 'Watch the Throne' lead single 'Otis' in front of a huge American flag.

Rocking casual, almost too-cool-to-care street clothes, Jay and Kanye set the stage on fire, while sparklers were set ablaze behind them.

Lady Gaga may have been a hard opening act to follow, but we're sure everyone will be talking about this momentous and unexpected surprise addition to the VMA performance line-up tomorrow!

Lady Gaga Opens the 2011 VMAs [Video]

Lady Gaga as Jo Calderone

Jo Calderone took Lady Gaga’s shine to open the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The eccentric pop star, dressed as her male alter-ego, suited up as her trash-talking counterpart to perform her new single “You and I,” addressing the crowd that included a befuddled Justin Bieber and Adele.

“What’s with the hair? At first it was sexy but I’m just confused. She said I’m just like the last one. I’m not like the last one!” said Jo of Gaga. “How am I supposed to shine? I think I’d be OK with this if I felt like she was really being herself with me.”

He exacted revenge by singing the country-tinged tune, joining backup dancers to hit her cues and gracing the piano. To cap her role-playing performance, she popped a beer and accompanied a big-haired electric guitarist.

Nicki Minaj, Rihanna Debut 'Fly' Video at 2011 MTV VMAs -- Watch

After taking the red carpet at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj, dressed in an avant-garde get-up: a metallic pink dress -- channeling Madonna's famed pointy bra -- paired with an ice cream necklace, multi-colored surgical mask and a stuffed animal hanging from her waist, showcased a clip of her Rihanna-assisted 'Fly' video.

In the black-and-white four-minute clip, Nicki Minaj steps out of an expensive ride into a world of destruction that looks like a UFO crashed and burn. "I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive/ I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise/ To fly," Rihanna coos as a black wig-wearing Minaj walks around the rubble, dressed in a pink ensemble.

Rihanna joins her rhyme sister, donning sleek, long red locks and a black fringed outfit. The Young Money MC raps alongside the pop star: "Cry my eyes out for days upon days/ Such a heavy burden placed upon me/ But when you go hard your nay's become yay's/ Yankee Stadium with Jay's and Kanye's."

The Bajan beauty and the Queens lyricist change wardrobes once again before the visuals conclude. RiRi in a leather bodysuit and Minaj in blonde, leopard-spotted tresses.
