Frank Ocean Makes Waves at L.A. Show [Video]

New Orleans native Frank Ocean dived right into his second home, Los Angeles, for a sold-out show at the El Rey Theatre on Tuesday night (Nov. 15). A voice over the loud speaker commanded audience members to put on their Asian straw hats (which were available for purchase at the merchandise counter) before the Odd Future member took the stage around 9:45 p.m. dressed in a suit and white dress shirt, with his signature bandana tied around his head.

During his hour-plus set, Ocean performed cuts off his mixtape/debut Nostalgia, Ultra, tried out new material including “Disillusion” and the Mary J. Blige-sampled “Super Rich Kids,” and had the audience singing along to Watch the Throne cuts “No Church in the Wild” and “Made in America.”

The reclusive singer catered to his female fans in the front row and played Guitar Hero against the large digital screen onstage while performing the Eagles-sampled “American Wedding.” His OFWGKTA affiliate Tyler, the Creator joined him for “She” as the rest of the crew watched from the balcony.

After “Strawberry Swing,” he returned for an encore, sitting at a keyboard while singing “Miss You,” the tender tune he penned for Beyoncé’s 4. “Thank you for coming out. I love you,” he told the crowd of 900 before bidding them adieu one last time.

Don’t worry if you missed out. We’ve captured some of the performances for your viewing pleasure.
